The lawsuit says Shannon asked Burrell to change the radio station from sports talk to music, but according to the complaint, Burrell became agitated, stopped the car and ordered Shannon to get out on South Negley Avenue.

When Shannon questioned him, the suit says Burrell punched him in the face hard enough to draw blood.

According to Shannon, Burrell begged him not to call police and offered to drive him to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital and pay his medical bills.

The lawsuit says Shannon needed several stitches but he didn't call police or report the alleged assault because he claims Burrell stayed with him and monitored his phone calls.

The suit says Burrell eventually drove Shannon home.

Shannon's lawyer writes in the complaint that Burrell has a history of assault and says Lyft should have caught that on a background check.

Shannon wants monetary damages.

Lyft released the following statement to Channel 11:

The safety of the Lyft community is our top priority, and we take allegations of this nature incredibly seriously. The incident in question was not reported to Lyft at the time. The first we were made aware of it was earlier today. The driver in question has been deactivated from the Lyft platform.

Channel 11 reached out to Shannon and Burrell but have not heard back.
