A man is charged with numerous counts after police said he set fire to his sister’s porch while his niece and nephew were inside the home.
David Schultz, of Bellevue, is charged with several counts of arson-related crimes and on an outstanding warrant for assault.
According to Westview police Lt. Matt Holland, Shultz and his sister had argued over money. Shultz allegedly went to his sister’s home around 4:15 p.m. Monday, poured gasoline on her front porch and threw a lit cigarette on it.

Police said the porch immediately caught fire. According to police documents, the two children were standing at the front door and they had no way out, as that was their only way to escape.
The fire was out by the time police and fire arrived, and the porch was scorched. When police went to Shultz's home, they said Shultz allegedly assaulted a Ross Township police officer and tried to take his gun.
Police said Schultz was so out of control that they had to use a Taser on him.
Schultz remained in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
