Police charged a Butler man with assaulting his girlfriend at his home, at one point using a machete, before she could escape in her car.
Police said Derek Pope attacked Alexzandria Burkett on Tuesday after she said she was leaving the house and wasn’t going to stay there anymore.
Burkett told police pushed her, strangled her, threw her around a room and at one point bit her. She also said he was using a machete to stab and cut holes in the wall and cut her arm with it, as well.
