PITTSBURGH — A man collapsed after getting out of his burning home early Thursday morning in Pittsburgh’s Elliott neighborhood, police said.
Flames spread from the first floor to the second and third floors of the home on Gibson Street, officials said. The fire started just after 3 a.m.
A man and woman got out of the home, but the man collapsed outside and went into cardiac arrest, police said. Paramedics were able to reestablish the man’s pulse while on the way to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Officials said firefighters were quickly able to put out the fire once they got inside the home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross will help the family with housing.
