PITTSBURGH — A man was arrested Monday after he allegedly tried to rob a Port Authority of Allegheny County police officer, officials said.

Aaron Walker, 26, is accused of showing a knife and demanding $5 and a cigarette from the officer, who was in plain clothes, at Fifth Avenue and Wood Street in downtown Pittsburgh, according to a criminal complaint.

When the officer refused, Walker took off, running in and out of traffic and nearly being hit by an ambulance and a police car, the complaint said.

Additional officers were called and chased after Walker, catching up to him at a parking garage at Katz Plaza at Seventh Street and Penn Avenue, police said.

Walker surrendered after an officer showed his badge and service weapon, but he was kicking and screaming, the complaint said. The door of a police car was damaged.

Police later searched Walker and discovered he had a debit card that had been stolen Sunday, officials said.
