Marvel Comics, Allegheny Health Network team up for comic book to celebrate nurses

PITTSBURGH — Marvel Comics and Allegheny Health Network have teamed up to honor some of the biggest heroes of 2020: nurses.

The comic book is called “The Vitals: True Nurse Stories”, and it’s based on the real-life heroics of eight AHN nurses during the pandemic.

Allegheny County Health Network sent a release, and describing why nurses are real-life heroes:

“They don’t wear colorful costumes, don’t swing from the rooftops or climb tall buildings without a rope. They don’t go by cool monikers like Captain America or Black Panther or She-Hulk.

But every day, in communities across our nation, they do perform heroic work, often at great risk to themselves, to care for patients with a highly contagious illness. They work long shifts with young families at home. They pray alongside families who can’t be beside their loved ones at the end of life. They may even shave their heads so that they have one less thing to bother with during a busy and stressful day.

THEY are nurses. In 2020, COVID-19 has swept through the U.S., impacting millions of people and leaving more than 250,000 deaths in its wake. Americans have been reminded during this challenging and unprecedented experience that nurses, and all frontline caregivers in hospitals and other clinical settings, truly are our real-life heroes.

They are ‘The Vitals.’”
