SOUTH PARK, Pa. — Community members gathered together to memorialize one of their own who touched many hearts with a simple wave or a smile along his postal route.

“We just decided this is what we needed to do for Lou (Vignone). We needed to come together and show that good always trumps evil, bad. We’re here to show all the good,” said organizer Karen Feitel.

The idea came after one of Vignone’s friends started decorating mailboxes with blue ribbons.

On Sunday afternoon, community members gathered at Gil’s Cafe in South Park to turn their Jeeps “blue for Lou” in honor of 58-year-old postal worker Lou Vignone who was shot and killed on his Collier Township route earlier this month. Vignone’s former neighbor said he believed he was being poisoned and that’s why he allegedly tracked Vignone down and shot him.

Sunday’s event featured music, food trucks and raffles raising money for the Vignone family.
