'Most wanted' fugitive arrested after more than year on the run, police say

PITTSBURGH — One of Allegheny County’s most wanted fugitives was behind bars Tuesday morning after police said he was on the run for a year and a half.

Investigators received a tip Monday that 33-year-old Charles Smith of Beltzhoover was staying at an apartment in Crafton Heights.

Police said they found Smith, who was pretending to be asleep, and arrested him.

Smith is wanted on charges that he assaulted a police officer in September 2015.

He was placed in the Allegheny County Jail.
