Nearly a year after officials confirmed lead in a school’s water supply, workers have made progress at Summit Township Elementary School in Butler County.
The school has been vacant and the water fountains covered since Channel 11 exposed high lead levels in the students’ drinking water coming from the local well.
After months of testing for lead, copper and E. coli, water crews hooked up a new public water line Friday.

District officials said students will start the year off at Broad Street Elementary in the city while maintenance crews get the waterlines ready.
As of Friday, officials said they still don’t know when students can return to their home school.
