North Allegheny elementary school locked down after bear cub was spotted on the campus

WEXFORD, Pa. — Northern Regional Police searched the campus of Marshall Elementary School in Wexford after a bear cub was seen near the school’s entrance.

At approximately 1 p.m., a bus driver saw the bear near the Wexford Run Road entrance. Fearing the mama bear may be nearby, all students were immediately brought into the building, said Principal Marc E. Thornton.

Police cleared the area just before 3 p.m. but as a precaution, extra staff will be on duty during dismissal, Thornton said.
