Months after North Braddock and East Pittsburgh officials said they were negotiating with Allegheny County Police to take over law enforcement efforts in their boroughs, the plans are dead, at least for now.
County police Supt. Coleman McDonough confirmed to Channel 11 on Thursday night that the county and North Braddock couldn’t agree on compensation for the shift in police coverage.
"While we are not going to get into details of private conversations, our discussions with North Braddock were good, positive ones," McDonough told Channel 11. "That being said, at this time, we have been unable to arrive at a number that made sense for both county and the municipal taxpayers."
North Braddock Council President John Vahosky said he was disappointed in that outcome. He said the county wanted $1.2 million to take over law enforcement in the borough, but they only have a $550,000 budget.

It’s not clear whether the same hurdle torpedoed plans with neighboring borough East Pittsburgh, where a borough police officer is charged with shooting and killing a teenager during a traffic stop this summer.
