PITTSBURGH — An Avalon police officer took a plea deal Thursday for his alleged involvement in a fight at a bar on Pittsburgh’s North Shore on Pirates opening day.

Christopher Rossetti was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in connection to the fight outside McFadden's Saloon in April.

He was off duty at the time.

Police said a Taser was used twice on Rossetti before he stopped trying to fight.

"There is a huge weight that has been on him for months now and it's finally gone, and we are happy about it," Blaine Jones, Rossetti's attorney said.

Jones also told Channel 11 that Rossetti hopes to continue his career as an officer now that this case is behind him.

"He was the one that  was assaulted," Jones said. "I think, unfortunately, things were taken out of context."

According to a criminal complaint, during the fight, as officers tried to break it up, Rossetti said, "I am a (expletive) cop, get the (expletive) off me."

When officers confronted him, they "stunned Christopher in the upper portion of his shoulder for seven seconds" after he failed to comply, according to a criminal complaint.

Both charges were dropped in a plea deal accepted Thursday.

"The resisting arrest and the other misdemeanor  were dropped, and we were able to plea to a summary charge, summary harassment," Jones said. "The penalties to summaries is like a moving violation. We are very happy."

As for Rossetti's law enforcement future, Channel 11 reached out to Avalon Police to learn if he will be disciplined. They did not return our request for comment.

"He wants to put this episode behind him and resume his law enforcement career, and in taking this deal that will help him resume his career," Jones said.
