One person shot in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man is recovering after he was shot several times early Tuesday morning in New Castle, emergency dispatchers said.

The shooting was reported shortly after midnight in the area of South Jefferson Street. Police said the 32-year-old victim walking home around 12:15 p.m. when he was attacked from behind.

The victim said the robber told him to hand over his cash, but he refused and was shot.

The victim was shot in the stomach and is expected to make a full recovery. Dispatchers said the victim was taken to UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle before being flown to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in Ohio.

The victim did not see his assailant's face and police are continuing to search for the shooter.
