HARRISBURG, Pa. — UPMC and Highmark patients rallied in Harrisburg on Tuesday to stop the two health care giants from splitting up.
Patients, family members and activists were there to urge lawmakers to take action.
They showed up with 10,000 signatures from people in western Pennsylvania.
They will lose in-network access and Highmark-insured patients will have to prepay in full for all non-emergency treatment at most UPMC hospitals.
On June 30, about 170,000 Highmark-insured patients will have to deal with higher costs.
On Thursday, the state Supreme Court will hear arguments from both sides and could put the split on hold.
