State Police confirmed there was an accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 279 Sunday that caused a major traffic back-up.
The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday near Exit 3 heading south on I-279 before the East Street exit, police said.
According to police reports, a minor two-car crash led to each driver pulling over on either side of the roadway. They exchanged information off the right side of I-279 and were heading back to their respective vehicles.

Police reports indicated that the driver who pulled over on the left side of the road was attempting to get back to her vehicle when she was hit by a vehicle traveling in the left lane.
The woman who was hit was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were non-life threatening, police said.
Police eventually located the vehicle and driver that hit the woman, and charges are pending, according to the police report.
All three lanes on I-279 heading towards downtown Pittsburgh were at a standstill near the accident, backing up traffic.
