PennDOT has announced a project that could create some significant delays over several days next year on Route 28.
It's a nearly $40 million project to improve the roadway in the Alle-Kiski Valley.
The road will be shut down for 12 weekends, six inbound and six outbound, for such upgrades as paving, drainage improvements and clearing away the dangers of falling rocks.
PennDOT is still waiting on the exact dates of when this will happen, but it will close a long stretch of the highway from Friday night into Monday morning.

The work will stretch from the Tarentum interchange all the way to the Butler County line.
The detour will take motorists along Freeport Road, which runs parallel to Route 28.
PennDOT has met with local leaders to alert police and fire fighters of the upcoming closures so they'll be prepared for emergencies.
