Pilot, passenger hurt when small plane crashed in Washington County; FAA to investigate

SOMERSET TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Multiple medical helicopters were called Monday after a small plane crashed in rural Washington County.

According to Washington County 911, the crash was called in around 6:30 p.m. in Somerset Township. It happened in a field in the area of School Road and Short Cut Road.

It’s not clear what went wrong to cause the crash, which happened shortly after takeoff, officials said. The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation.

Officials said there were two people injured in the crash -- the pilot and a passenger. They were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital in critical but stable condition.

The plane was a Cessna 150.
