PITTSBURGH — University of Pittsburgh police are investigating two off-campus burglaries that happened blocks apart.

Police were first called to a home on Niagara Street on Sunday. A person who lives there told them someone got in between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and stole personal belongings.

Pitt police were then called to St. James Place around 9:30 p.m. after another home was burglarized.

“It kind of worries me. I’m actually living right around the corner, so this hits close to home, for sure,” John-Michael Yurisic, a Pitt sophomore, said. “And my roommates and I are going to be moving in on the 23rd, so I hope they can get everything figured out before we all go back.”

The burglaries come as students start moving into Oakland neighborhoods ahead of the start of the fall semester.

Pitt police are stressing to students to lock all windows and doors and to report suspicious activity.
