Pittsburgh kids get new dek hockey rink

PITTSBURGH — A new place for kids to have some fun has just been opened in Pittsburgh.

The city of Pittsburgh announced that the ribbon was cut on the new dek hockey rink in McBride Park.

City leaders, community officials, the Department of Public Works, and the Pittsburgh Penguins all attended the event.

The new court features an all-weather plastic surface and costs $750,000 to build. Construction began last fall and was slowed by delays due to the pandemic. Most of the funding was secured by the city, with the Pittsburgh Penguins donating money as well, according to our news partners at TribLive.

Up until now, young people in Lincoln Place have either had to play their dek hockey on tennis courts or go elsewhere.
