PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Police officers started community walks through different neighborhoods each day to meet people who live there and build trust. On Tuesday afternoon, four officers were walking in Homewood when they were stopped.
“Guy pulls up honking his horn crazy,” said Officer Aundre Wright.
“Really upset. He was flustered someone was in trouble,” said Officer Dominic Maggio.
The officers took off running and found a man in his 50s or 60s with someone dumping water on his head.
“I helped pull him down to the ground. Aundre (Wright) began to do chest compressions. Officer Sheldon administered the Narcan,” Maggio said.
The man came to after three shots of Narcan as people stopped to check on what was happening.
“We had to tell them, assure them, medical emergency. This fellow was overdosing. We wanted to get him some help,” Officer Jonathan Bradford said.
Pittsburgh Police said this is part of their daily job when out on patrol.
“In today’s day and age, a lot of people aren’t big fans of ours. Hopefully, we can change that,” Wright said.
“We are not here to just enforce law. We are here to save people,” said Officer Brian Shelton.
