Pittsburgh Public Works employees banned from stopping at restaurants, stores while on job

Some workers say a new City of Pittsburgh policy is out of line.

It prevents Public Works crews from going to restaurants and convenience stores while on the job.

They can't even run in to use the restroom, Gable said, they have to use city-owned properties.

"Just a little bit frustrated seeing the number of vehicles at all these places. I want the job that everybody has to do to be the most important thing first," Pittsburgh Public Works Director Mike Gable said.

"We have 38 fire stations, any number of police and EMS stations. We have rec centers and senior centers, public works facilities, we have port-a-johns in the park. There's no lack of space for people to use the restrooms," he said.
