Pittsburgh unveils first ‘complete street’ design at new development

PITTSBURGH — Protected lanes for pedestrians and cyclists are now open at Hazelwood Green.

Drone 11 flew over Pittsburgh’s first “Complete Street” design. It includes Lytle Beehive and Eliza streets.

There are also raised intersections and green infrastructure.

This new design features raised cycle lanes, which is popular in Europe. That means there is a three-foot buffer from the curb to keep pedestrians and cyclists safe.

Other work underway at Hazelwood Green includes construction of the public plaza, which is scheduled for completion in the summer.
