Police car, motorcycle crash during high-speed chase on Turnpike

RICHLAND TWP., — A Florida man is facing charges after a police vehicle and a motorcycle both crashed in separate locations during a high-speed chase on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Sunday.

Pennsylvania State Police said the incident occurred near mile marker 36 in Richland Township at about 11:40 a.m. when a trooper conducting a speed check using radar in the area clocked a black motorcycle going 114 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Police attempted to pull over the motorcyclist, who then drove off. While attempting to pursue, the trooper crashed his patrol vehicle, police said. The motorcyclist then went about 4 miles down the road before he too crashed at the Pittsburgh Interchange.

Daniel Alexander Martinez Pereira, 22, of Doral, Florida, was identified as the driver of the motorcycle. He was taken to Forbes Hospital for his injuries. Charges are pending.
