Police, K-9 search neighborhood after car crashes into pole

PITTSBURGH — Police and a K-9 searched the area where a vehicle crashed into a pole after speeding away from Pittsburgh officers early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The driver of the vehicle sped away from the officers, who turned on the lights of a police cruiser upon noticing a traffic violation on Frankstown Avenue, near Collier Street, in Homewood, police said.

Police did not pursue the vehicle, but an officer in another cruiser saw the vehicle crash into the pole in the area of Collier and Mount Vernon streets.

The driver got out of the vehicle after the crash and ran into a wooded area, where officers lost sight of him, police said.
