BRENTWOOD, Pa. — Police officers in Brentwood will be working 12-hour shifts in 2020.

Officers had been working eight-hour shifts, but the police department is now testing out a schedule in which everyone works 12 hours on teams.

The teams will be led by the same sergeants and then have every other weekend off, officials said.

The police chief believes the new schedule will have a number of benefits, including leading to more unity and improved communication.

However, some citizens, such as Richard Bloxsom, have concerns.

“The police going on 12-hour shifts is a long day, and it could end up, you know, where they’re fatigued and not as sharp as they should be,” Bloxsom said.

It unclear how the new schedule will impact overtime.
