MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Moon Township say people are stealing checks from mailboxes and cashing them fraudulently.

The checks in question were written at the township's municipal offices and brought to the post office across the street. What happened next isn't entirely clear, but police said those checks never made it to their destinations.

"We believe people were stealing checks out of mail boxes. Once they got the checks, they were either altering the checks and/or making fictitious checks," Moon Police Chief Greg Seamon said.

In total, four checks worth between $1,400 and $1,800 each were stolen.

Police have arrest warrants for the three suspects charging them with forgery and theft by deception.
