CARRICK, Pa. — A SWAT team did not find the suspect in connection with a shooting in Carrick Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police said the SWAT situation is now over.

The SWAT team was searching the nearby area after a man was shot near Brownsville Road.

According to Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler, the shooting took place around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Wynoka Street and Brownsville Road.

Paramedics transported the victim to UPMC Mercy Hospital in "serious but stable" condition, according to Toler. He was later upgraded to stable condition.

According to Toler, a SWAT team was called to search inside a residence in the 1100 block of Brownsville Road. The shooting took place on the first floor hallway of that residence, Toler said.

The SHOP 'n SAVE store in Carrick was closed until the situation cleared.

"Sunday, Mother's Day, broad daylight, early in the morning and you got nonsense, when does it stop?" said Melissa Esplen. Her 10-year-old son went to the store to pick up some things for the holiday. As he was leaving, someone started shooting. "He saw a couple of guys and he had to run backwards to my mom's to get home," Esplen said.

Police said they cleared the parking lot of a nearby shopping center, but the shooter was not found.

"I heard the gunshots go off about three, bang bang bang," said Charles Cocuzzi of Carrick. He told Channel 11 he saw the victim. "He's yelling 'oh no, oh no' and went across the street, and a guy stopped there."

Police were still looking for the shooter as of Sunday night.

Police found a long gun and pistol in plain view in a second-floor apartment.
