Pool reopens after kids got sick over Memorial Day weekend

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — A community pool is reopening for the first time after a number of kids got sick after swimming over Memorial Day weekend.

The Adams Ridge community pool has been closed for the past 10 days after eight kids experienced gastrointestinal cramping and diarrhea. At least two of the kids tested positive for C. diff and E. coli.

The Department of Health did a full inspection of the pool, took samples of the water for bacteria, and identified some areas of non compliance. According to the Adams Ridge Home Owners Association’s Facebook page, that included bacterial monitoring, permits for accurate test kits, daily performance logs and facility management.

HOA officials said more accurate tests have been purchased, and chemical levels and pool cleaning are being enhanced. They changed pool management companies and added a third pool manager.

The HOA said on Thursday it was switching management companies away from B and R pools. However, Saturday the HOA corrected that message saying B and R pools was not responsible for the pool’s management during the time the kids got sick.

The pool reopened Friday.
