PITTSBURGH — A sinkhole has a road in Pittsburgh’s Morningside neighborhood shut down.

Police first blocked a section of Morningside Avenue near Greenwood Street on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority said a break in an 8-inch water line created the problem.

Neighbors says a pothole the city continued to repair since last summer is now a more serious, urgent issue.

Part of the hole caved in Tuesday.

It's not clear how deep the hole is, but it is big enough for a person to fit in and police have been keeping cars away in case of a collapse.

"Never saw a thing, never noticed it, this is the first time ever seen something like this," said Chance Wayne. "Generally, these streets in Morningside are quite passable and quite well-maintained ... until this."

Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority contractors began repairs Tuesday night.
