It’s been 5 years since Ligonier Township police Lt. Eric Eslary was killed in a wrong-way crash.
He was on duty and patrolling Route 30 on May 5, 2015 when a wrong-way driver hit his police vehicle.
Eslary, who also served as a volunteer firefighter in Wilpen, was a husband and father of six.
His K-9 partner, Blek, who was in the vehicle with him at the time, recovered. Blek died of cancer in May 2018, six months after he was diagnosed.
Clair Fink III of Ligonier was sentenced to 12 to 30 years in prison for drunkenly driving the wrong way in his work van and hitting Eslary’s cruiser head-on.
