NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A section of a Tennessee interstate will be re-named in memory of a Butler County native who was murdered while headed to work as an ICU nurse in Nashville.
The Wilson County Commissioners unanimously approved the resolution Monday to rename a one-mile section of I-440 in memory of Caitlyn Kaufman.

Kaufman was shot and killed along the interstate in Nashville while heading to work on Dec. 3, 2020. The windshield of her SUV was shattered and her back windows were destroyed by gunfire. It’s not clear if it was a targeted killing, random or a road rage incident.
Police arrested James Cowan, 28, and Devaunte Hill, 21, in connection with her death. Both are charged with criminal homicide.
Police said Kaufman did not know either of the men.

Kaufman grew up in Chicora and her family said moving to Nashville was her lifelong dream.
Nearly 40 people and organizations donated more than $13,000 to a legacy scholarship in her honor.
