PITTSBURGH — More than 20 public school districts and charter schools in southwestern Pennsylvania have average salaries for full-time classroom teachers in excess of $80,000, with three topping $90,000 according to the most recent available data from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Fox Chapel Area, Montour and Chartiers Valley each topped $90,000. Gateway School District and Quaker Valley School District round out the five highest-paid districts. More than 27,000 teachers in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties are included in the analysis.
Private schools typically have salaries based on degree completed and years of service. Almost 80% of Fox Chapel’s full-time classroom teachers have either a master’s or doctorate degree. More than half of Montour’s teachers and more than 60% of Chartiers Valley’s full-time classroom instructors have advanced degrees.
