McCANDLESS, Pa. — A garbage truck dumped its load Wednesday afternoon onto a residential street in McCandless after the driver spotted a fire, Channel 11 News has learned.
“There was smoke coming from the back where the garbage was located,” Luke Mortimer, who witnessed the incident on Stuyvesant Road, said. “He had a pretty big load.”

In order to prevent flames from sparking, the driver used a fire extinguisher and made the decision to dump the garbage. A backhoe was brought into clean up the mess and load it onto two other trucks.
A Waste Management spokesperson said there are cameras in their trucks. A camera in the truck involved in Wednesday’s incident showed the smoke, but the cause is not known.
