Recently, the city's zoning board approved a 300-unit apartment complex to be built on Wharton Street near the Birmingham Bridge. The plan now moves to the Planning Committee for the next step in the approval process.
"People think of the riverside as the more quiet side as opposed to closer to the Slopes. It would definitely change the dynamic and make it more rambunctious around here,” said Kahli Hale, who lives on the South Side.
Neighbors raised several concerns with Channel 11, ranging from traffic and declining property values to parking.
"It's pretty easy to find parking now, but with an additional 300 units I couldn't even imagine.” said South Side resident Emily Crook.
Plans call for a parking garage to be built for residents of the new complex.
Columbus-based developer Edwards Communities Development did not return Channel 11’s email requests for a comment on Friday.
City Councilman Bruce Kraus' staff said Kraus has raised some issues but has not taken an official stance on the project.
