Tarentum community rallies around fallen teenage firefighter

The Tarentum community is rallying around a teenage firefighter killed in a head-on collision Sunday night.

Mikey Zier, 17, and his girlfriend's mother, Beth Ann Bevridge, 43, died at about 10 p.m. Sunday when their Hyundai Sante Fe was struck by a Toyota Corolla on Route 286 in Plum. The 25-year-old man driving the Corolla and Bevridge's 19-year-old daughter survived.

. It was the worst call," said Kevin Rowlands, Zier's uncle. "He was very caring, very loving, he was fun to be around."

for Zier's funeral and memorial on Monday night. Within 12 hours, it had raised nearly $2,000.

"So sorry for your loss. The world needs more good young men like him willing to help out. Our thoughts are with you," said one donor.

Zier, a rising senior at Highlands High School, was a junior captain in Summit Hose Company Engine 282.
