PITTSBURGH — The vaccinations for teachers and support staff in Allegheny County kicks off Thursday at several spots around Pittsburgh.
Approximately 7,400 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be given over the next eight days at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s headquarters in Homestead, helped in part by the Pennsylvania National Guard.
“Luckily, we have a facility that lends itself well to this kind of an operation,” said Aaron Skrbin, with the AIU.
State leaders are prioritizing early childhood education and elementary schools in this first round of vaccinations. Another shipment of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to arrive by the end of the month. Gov. Tom Wolf said he predicts all teachers and support staff will be able to get a dose of the vaccine by the beginning of April.
In East Liberty, Pittsburgh Public School teachers and staff will get the vaccine at Obama Academy. Giant Eagle confirmed it will also vaccinate PPS employees at Heinz Field.
