Therapist accused of taking woman to hotel, coercing her into sex

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — A visiting therapist is facing criminal charges after investigators said he took a woman to a hotel twice and coerced her into having sex with him.

According to our partners at TribLive.com, William Francis Denney, 62, was charged with institutional sexual assault and criminal coercion.

Court documents said Denney took the woman to the Quality Inn hotel on Tarentum Bridge Road in December 2017 and January 2018. The alleged assaults were reported to New Kensington Police a year later.

At the time, Denney was employed by Wesley Family services. Officials said he was put on administrative leave as soon as the facility was made aware of the allegations.

The victim told police she feared that if she resisted Denney, he would send her to a mental health hospital.

Denney’s attorney, Casey White, said the charges were surprising.

“Now that the allegations have been made clear by the New Kensington Police Department, Mr. Denney and myself are going to sit down and comb through each and every allegation made by this woman,” White told TribLive.com. “At this point in time, we’re not sure why exactly it took over two years for the charges to be filed.”
