MERCER COUNTY, Pa. — Officials at Thiel College in Mercer County are trying to track down the source of norovirus, which sickened students and staff members.
They said only a few new cases were reported today, which they believe means the precautions being taken to stop the spread of the virus are working.
Those precautions include:

- Additional cleaning and sanitation in residence halls, classrooms and common places.
- Closing the fitness center.
- Discontinuing athletic practices and events.
According to a post on the college’s website, officials will determine Sunday whether practices and events can resume. The other precautions will remain in place.

Campus food was tested, but no contamination was found, the post said.
College officials are asking everyone to do the following:
- Avoid activities that involve physical contact with others (e.g., competition athletics, intramurals, etc.).
- If you are experiencing symptoms, avoid close contact with others as much as possible (including classes).
- Refrain from sharing of eating utensils, linens, or other personal items.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, and complement hand washing with the use of an alcohol-based hand rub when possible.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid caffeinated drinks, sugary drinks and alcohol.
