“I heard the crash. It was loud… like an empty trailer. They bounce across these railroad tracks sometimes, but it just kept going and going and rolling. So I came around the corner and looked,” said Butler resident John Marten, who heard the accident.

The tractor-trailer was traveling through the intersection along Route 422 when it hit a convertible and then crashed into a pickup truck, splitting it in two before landing in a nearby creek.

“That truck… took the brunt of it. That’s the most damage I’ve seen to a vehicle out here,” said Butler resident John Halagich.

Three people, all in critical condition, were flown by medical helicopter to nearby hospitals.

Route 422 reopened around 10:30 p.m.
