PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh police department said it has no intention of reinstating former officer Michael Rosfeld.

In a statement posted on social media Sunday night, the department said that the university is “vigorously opposing” his lawsuit.

Rosfeld filed a lawsuit against the department in January over his firing following an incident at an Oakland bar.

The suit contends that Rosfeld was never presented with any evidence as to why he was being terminated, and Rosfeld claims that his due process rights were violated.

Rosfeld is the same officer who was found not guilty of criminal homicide in the shooting death of 17-year-old Antwon Rose. Rose was shot when he ran from a traffic stop in East Pittsburgh in June 2018.

The lawsuit against the University of Pittsburgh police department is not related to the Rose shooting.
