PITTSBURGH — UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic Wednesday that’s the first of its kind in our region. It will be specifically for pregnant women who want the vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers pregnant women to be at high risk for COVID-19, and they are in Phase 1A of Pennsylvania’s vaccine rollout.
Dr. Richard Beigi is the president of UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. He said last week that at least 60,000 pregnant women have been vaccinated and more than 3,500 have shared their information with the CDC. Beigi said the data is very reassuring that these vaccines are safe.
“They’re not causing any increase rate of adverse pregnancy outcomes. They’re also not causing increased rates of symptoms among pregnant women,” Beigi said.
Beigi said UPMC wants to ensure that pregnant women who want to be vaccinated, can be vaccinated.
UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital expects to vaccinate hundreds of women.
Pregnant women who want the vaccine do not have to already be a UPMC patient to register, but they must be over the age of 19. Call 833-653-0519 to register. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
