UPMC announced plans Wednesday for three new specialty hospitals in the city of Pittsburgh that will cost a total of $2 billion to build.
A vision and rehabilitation hospital is scheduled to open in 2021 at UPMC Mercy, and a heart and transplant hospital at UPMC Presbyterian and a cancer hospital at UPMC Shadyside will open in 2023.
“It’s an exhilarating moment,” said CEO Jeffrey Romoff, who said UPMC is aiming to become the Amazon of medicine.
