‘Coal has a bright future’: U.S. Secretary of Energy tours underground mine complex in Washington Co.

WASHINGTON CO., Pa. — The U.S. Secretary of Energy was in Washington County Friday touring CONSOL Energy’s mining complex.

It’s the largest underground mine complex in North America.

“What I’ve learned today and what I’ve seen here today is that we need to start thinking about coal in a different way. Coal has a bright future here in America,” he said.

Secretary Dan Brouillette said his goal is to promote energy policies that include fossil fuels, renewable energy and nuclear energy.

Brouillette was in Ohio yesterday with Vice President Mike Pence to see Lordstown Motors’ new all-electric pickup truck.
