Weather forces local speedway to cancel events celebrating 1,000th sprint car race

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Inclement weather forced officials to cancel events at Lernerville Speedway to celebrate the track’s 1,000th sprint car race.

Dubbed the ‘Lernerville Grand,’ our partners at TribLive.com reported the event would have featured the All Star Circuit of Champions, a national touring group. Heavy downpours and chilly temperatures led to the cancellation.

The Buffalo Township track opened in 1968 when Don Martin built the dirt oval at the former site of a small amusement park called Lernerville. Sprint cars have been a staple at the trick since it was built.

There are typically a number of different races on any given Friday night at the track including sprint cars, modifieds and late models.
