PITTSBURGH — Several local couples are starting off the new year with new additions to their families.
Just minutes after the clock hit midnight, the first Pittsburgh baby of 2020 was born. Meet Onari, who came into the world at Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland at 12:09 a.m. Wednesday.
Mother Erika Peoples said she went into labor on Monday night and after a doctor’s visit Tuesday morning, she returned home. Once she got to the hospital around 9:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, delivery was relatively quick.
“It took 9 minutes once I started pushing. I started a midnight and here she came,” Peoples said.

Baby Leo was born at West Penn Hospital just a few minutes later at 12:16 a.m.
Mom Jessica Ciufo said she went to the hospital early on New Year’s Eve to be induced and after several hours of labor, doctors performed a C-section just after midnight.
“It’s our first baby so it’s kind of exciting that he has this special birthday. First baby of Pittsburgh and first start of the decade. My birthday is on Valentine’s Day, so it’s kinda fun that we share holiday birthdays,” said Ciufo.
Not to be outdone was Serena Spino, who was born in the Family Additions Maternity Center at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital.
Big brother James was hoping for twins, but he’ll have to settle for sharing his own birthday (January 23) with a cousin.
“We like to say they are twins of different mothers, since they were born the same day in the same year,” said mom Sarah Spino of Greensburg.
Happy birthday to these beautiful babies!
