MCKEESPORT, Pa. — A pregnant woman shot and killed in McKeesport on Monday was the daughter of a former NFL player.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Karli Short, 26, of McKeesport, as the woman who died on 25th Street.

Short’s father, Brandon Short, played football at McKeesport Area High School before starring in Penn State’s defense. He was drafted in 2000 by the New York Giants and also played for the Carolina Panthers.

He said his greatest achievement came off the field, being Karli’s father.

“I’m heartbroken, angry. I’m frustrated. I’m scared. I don’t know what to do,” Short said. “She was funny. She had such a big personality.”

“Family is first. That comes before anything,” Short said. “We just found out it was a little boy, so we lost two.”

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded and is investigating.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
