Curadeau sprang into action, diving in and pulling the unresponsive boy to the surface as a friend helped, CTV reported.
According to CTV News, Shana-Maude Curadeau said she and other children were at a community pool in Lachine, Quebec, last weekend when a 10-year-old boy began to drown.
"His sister told me, 'Can you get my brother under water?'" Curadeau told the station.
"I heard Shana-Maude scream, and I got up," Josee Ouellette, who witnessed the incident, told the station. "She was already in the water, holding the boy and yelling for help."
A lifeguard then quickly performed CPR on the boy, according to the Montreal Gazette.
The boy, who was treated at a nearby hospital, survived the near-drowning, the newspaper reported.
