Democrats and Republicans went to the polls Tuesday in five northern states as the contest for delegates continued.
Front runners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were both ahead in the polls. According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll, Trump enjoyed an 18-point lead in Pennsylvania with 45 percent of likely Republican voters saying they support him. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz had 27 percent support there and John Kasich had 4 percent.
That poll was taken prior to Cruz and Kasich’s announcement Sunday that they would join together in the primaries following Tuesday’s contests to try to keep Trump from getting a majority of the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination for president outright.
On the Democrat side, Clinton was ahead of Sen. Bernie Sanders in the polls in all five states.
