A 64-year-old Utah man accused of robbing a bank told police he needed the money because he could not afford his medications, the Standard-Examiner of Ogden reported.
Glenn Douglas Mower, of Roy, was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, in the Second District Court, The Salt Lake Tribunereported. He is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
Mower returned to his room at an adjacent motel, the newspaper reported. He left voluntarily when police came to his room, according to the Standard-Examiner.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mower told pollice he went to a Key Bank branch in Roy on Tuesday with a white paper bag and asked a teller "to place the money in it," the Tribune reported.
Mower told police he was "having a rough time" and did not believe he was going to live much longer, according to charging documents. He also told police he was suffering from health issues and did not have enough money to buy medications he needed, the newspaper reported,
Police found the stolen money in the drawer of a nightstand in Mower's motel room, the Tribune reported.
