TOBERMORY, Ont. — A 23-year-old Canadian woman followed instructions from her GPS Thursday evening in the fog and ended up in Lake Huron.
According to The Canadian Press, Provincial Constable Katrina Rubinstein-Gilbert said that driving conditions were poor, with rain and fog making visibility difficult. The woman (who declined to be identified) drove her Toyota Yaris off a boat launch that had a steep ramp into the lake.
Rubinstein-Gilbert said that the car stayed afloat long enough for the woman to get out and swim 100 feet to shore in the 40-degree water.
The woman did not suffer any injuries from the ordeal.
"She's in really good spirits. Of course a little embarrassed, but taking it all in stride," Rubinstein-Gilbert told The Canadian Press.
The car eventually sank and was recovered the following morning.
No charges were filed.
